Iberia Cargo announces new route to Maastricht Airport
20 November 2009
Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) and Iberia Cargo are delighted to announce the start of a twice weekly service connecting MAA with Madrid Barajas Airport
Today Maastricht Aachen Airport (MAA) and Iberia Cargo proudly announce the start of a twice weekly service connecting MAA with Madrid Barajas Airport and further to destinations in Iberia Cargo's network in Central and South America such as Sao Paolo, Bogota, Quito & Mexico City. The inaugural flight arrived at Maastricht on 20 November 2009 at 11h10 local time. The new cargo route will be served with a Boeing 757 freighter.
“We are very pleased to announce the start of Iberia Cargo at our airport” said Sander Heijmans, CEO of Maastricht Aachen Airport and Maastricht Handling Services today. He continues: “We are pleased with Iberia Cargo's decision to expand it's cargo network with flights to Maastricht and view this new partnership as a vital part of our strategy of connecting the region to the world's main trading hubs, such as Madrid, Sao Paolo, Quito & Bogota. These cargo connections with South America with a well established, well known airline will help to improve our long term position in the perishables trade between the Netherlands and the flower producing regions of the world.”
Sander Heijmans added: “The start of the Iberia Cargo service is another milestone for our cargo division. Once our forwarding community and partner airlines already active at MAA discover the benefits of the trade lanes this opens to our region, we expect volumes to increase considerably. To accommodate this foreseen growth in volume we will open a new 18.000 m2 cargo terminal operational as from 2011. This will allow us to grow to over 200.000 annual tons and Maastricht Handling Services to increase their service levels even further”.
