![]() Omniport owns 100% of the holding company (NV HBLM) which owns Maastricht Aachen Airport (MST) in the Netherlands. Maastricht Aachen Airport is located in South Limburg Province in the southernmost region of the Netherlands on the borders of Germany and Belgium. It serves the cities of Maastricht, Aachen, Liege, Hasselt and Heerlen (The Meuse-Rheine-Euroregion) where over 6 million people live within a one hour drive-time of the airport. In the 12 month period to March 2010, the airport handled approximately 150,000 passengers and 85,000 tonnes of cargo. Scheduled passenger routes currently operate with Ryanair to Barcelona (Girona), Alicante, Trapani and Pisa. The airport also has an extensive charter programme to popular holiday destinations. The Dutch government's recent decision to remove the 'Ecotax' levy on airline tickets that was introduced in 2008 means that Omniport is confident of securing additional scheduled services for the summer of 2010. Given its central European location and excellent motorway connections the airport is ideally placed for freight traffic and has scheduled widebody freighter operations by Cargolux, Air Bridge Cargo and Turkish Airlines as well as a number of ad-hoc cargo operations. The economic downturn has inevitably impacted on freight volumes, both flown and trucked, but the airport remains a location of choice for a large community of forwarders despite the offers of competing airports in the region. In addition to the airport and its fellow 100% subsidiaries Maastricht Handling Services (MHS), Saturn BV (hotel owner) and Real Estate BV (property management), NV HBLM also owns the business park development company BPMAA BV. This company owns the land and zoning rights for a 104 hectare business park adjacent to the airport. In July 2009 three partners joined BPMAA to progress and jointly finance the development of this site. The completion of this deal is a testament to the quality of the opportunity in a climate of restricted land and property development activity. The first plots are already sold and being prepared for customers. Alongside this the development of a new 20,000m squared cargo terminal and apron is being progressed to allow MHS to expand and fulfill its potential. Other plots will have apron (airside) access making them ideal for activities such as aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), business aviation and other related uses which already have a presence on the airfield. The video attached below formed the first element of the national Dutch television advertising campaign in October 2009.
