Maastricht Aachen Airport is located in South Limburg Province in the southernmost region of the Netherlands on the borders of Germany and Belgium. It serves the cities of Maastricht, Aachen, Liege, Hasselt and Heerlen (The Meuse-Rheine-Euroregion) where over 6 million people live within a one hour drive-time of the airport.

In the 12 month period  to 31st March 2008, the airport handled approximately 165,000 passengers and 82,000 tonnes of cargo. Scheduled passenger routes currently operate to Amsterdam (KLM Cityhopper) and Barcelona (Girona), Alicante and Valencia (all Ryanair). In Summer 2008, Amsterdam Airlines will begin regular services to Turkey and Morocco. The airport also has an extensive charter programme to popular holiday destinations. In the current year, the airport is expected to handle in excess of 300,000 passengers.

Given its central European location and excellent motorway connections the airport is ideally placed for freight traffic and has scheduled widebody freighter operations by Cargolux and Turkish Airlines as well as a number of ad-hoc cargo operations. Omniport is currently in discussion with a number of carriers with a view to increasing both passenger and freight traffic at the airport.

In addition to the airport and its 100% subsidiary Maastricht Handling Services (MHS), (NV HBLM) also owns the rights to develop a Business Park on land adjacent to the airport.  Development of this Businesspark has recently commenced with the development of a new cargo village to handle the rapidly increasing demand for freight processing. A further 50 Hectares are available for additional development, some of which have direct airside (apron) access making the site ideal for activities such as aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO), business aviation and other related uses.  To date there has been substantial interest in this site.
